Starting of this year AT&T has confirmed that 5G network will be available in 2018 for some selected locations in US. Now AT&T has provided some additional information regarding the same. 5G will be available including parts of Dallas, Atlanta and Waco, Texas, by the end of this year. AT&T also confirmed that dozens of cities will receive the update before the end of 2018 and rest of the cities will be announced later.
5G will be deployed based on 3GPP standards and it will be operated over mmWave spectrum. Igal Elbaz, Senior VP of Wireless Network Architecture and Design at AT&T, said the company contributed, conducted trials and “literally transformed the carrier’s network for the future”.
AT&T also said, its 5G will have theoretical peak upload/download speed reaching multiple gigabits per second. Currently all manufactures are started to test their devices for 5G and the devices will be available either at the end of 2018 or 2019 early.
